I am really starting to love journaling in my Moleskine Sketchbook. It's the perfect size for those moments that I can grab to do the art part of art journaling and then equally as perfect for journaling while sitting in the glider next to the crib while the baby falls asleep. The pages are thick enough to stand up to gluing and media too - tho make sure you get the sketchbook Moleskine - not just a blank Moleskine as those have lighter pages.
I started to journal in this Moleskine about a year ago (right before I discovered I was pregnant), but I stopped using this journal, partially because I wasn't satisfied with the background (example of an old page above). I usually make really elaborate backgrounds from pages of books torn up or painted on and the Moleskine didn't seem sturdy enough for that. But now I just don't have time for those complicated backgrounds. So I decided to lay down with my Caran d Arche crayons and smeared it with a baby wipe. I've done several colors in advance, so I don't have to wait for the background to dry before I can journal. If I know I am going to have a few minutes, I'll color a page in advance. In the page at the top (the brown one), I stuck on circular office supply labels, put down the color, wet it and then when it was dry, took off the labels.
Here's another page from last year. The difference seems pretty glaring to me, but maybe it's only me. I also bought Moleskine Watercolor notebook the other day - I'm excited to try it BUT I'm going to try to finish this journal first. And it will be a first to actually FINISH an art journal.
I love that bird head on the bottom page. :)
